Already tried all of the suggestions that I read here as well as on other resources.

First of all the problem occurs on both Mac and PC

I tried to resolve this on PC using Windows 10 (updated as of August 2020) as there are no available resources to fix it on Mac

As I plug-in the device to different USB ports I get the following message under Properties > General:

"Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

A request for the USB device descriptor failed."

That being said, the system does not recognize the device. So I tried the document you've provided and assigned the given values and even changed them to other values but it does not work! It cannot even trigger the FILE -> EEPROM function

I even tried to uninstall my ASIO4all driver to see if that is actually intercepting any driver update but nothing happened! Why is it acting up like this all of a sudden? I also tried using a different USB cord but it does not work. It's still giving an amber light.

I hope your company is really doing something about this.

I have been using this microphone for the past year or so. I do not know if this is relevant, but I am going to leave it here, because in searching for a solution this thread came up.

I have just built a new system, replaced RAM, CPU, HDD and Video card.

On doing this, I started getting random system hangs, which do not respond at all to CTRL ALT Delete.

I have done the usual trouble shooting. Including, re-installing windows three times, re-seating everything, running MEMTEST86, replacing HDD with another brand new item etc.

Every time the system hang happens (which requires cold restart), the following error is noted in event viewer prior to the crash.

The driver \Driver\WudfRd failed to load for the device HID\VID_17A0&PID_0310&MI_03&Col02\8&6efcb10&0&0001.

This is the number/details of my Samson Meteor Mic.

I have just done the upgrade firmware process. I am going to see if the problem persists even with the microphone unplugged. I am leaving this here in the hope Google crawls the thread to help others eliminate this problem.

I stopped using my Meteor a few years ago because I got tired of troubleshooting it. I got it out today on a whim and plugged it into a Macbook Pro because I needed something for a Zoom call. It immediately lit up blue and passed the mic test! Less than a minute after that, the light went solid amber and the device was no longer recognized.

So I found this thread. I started up my Windows 10 tower and followed the instructions on this page.

    1) The mic shows up in Device Manager as Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) before and after uninstalling/restarting.

    2) In CM64xx Configuration, if I enter VID:08dc PID:016c at the bottom of the panel, I get the "Cannot find the HID device!!!" error.

    3) Back to Device Manager>Properties>Events. There are two events:

    Device Configured (usb .inf):

    Device USB\VID_0000&PID_0002\5&356b5377&0&9 was configured.

    Driver Name: usb.inf
    Class Guid: {36fc9e60-c465-11cf-8056-444553540000}
    Driver Date: 06/21/2006
    Driver Version: 10.0.18362.693
    Driver Provider: Microsoft
    Driver Section: BADDEVICE.Dev.NT
    Driver Rank: 0xFF0000
    Matching Device Id: USB\DEVICE_DESCRIPTOR_FAILURE
    Outranked Drivers: usb.inf:USB\DEVICE_DESCRIPTOR_FAILURE:00FF2000
    Device Updated: false
    Parent Device: USB\ROOT_HUB30\4&2720bdb3&0&0

    Device not started:

    Device USB\VID_0000&PID_0002\5&356b5377&0&9 was configured.

    Driver Name: usb.inf
    Class Guid: {36fc9e60-c465-11cf-8056-444553540000}
    Driver Date: 06/21/2006
    Driver Version: 10.0.18362.693
    Driver Provider: Microsoft
    Driver Section: BADDEVICE.Dev.NT
    Driver Rank: 0xFF0000
    Matching Device Id: USB\DEVICE_DESCRIPTOR_FAILURE
    Outranked Drivers: usb.inf:USB\DEVICE_DESCRIPTOR_FAILURE:00FF2000
    Device Updated: false
    Parent Device: USB\ROOT_HUB30\4&2720bdb3&0&0

    4) These errors show different VID/PID values: 0000 and 0002. They seem like default/null values, but I try them in the CM64xx Configurator anyways. Still cannot find the HID device.

    5) My PC has 9 usb ports. It is the same result for each.

    So, I have two questions:

Why would the mic work perfectly for a few minutes and then suddenly stop on its own?

Is there anything I can do to at least get the device descriptor to load so I can use the CM64xx Configurator?

Paul, if you follow the directions 1 through 3 in the PDF, what VID and PID do you see?  If there are multiple USB composite devices you will need to check each one.

I kind of solved it for me. I use it on Windows 10:

I had the "HID not detected" error like so many others. The values (VID:0d8c,PID:016c) provided in the word file did not work. I did then the following:

I went to the device manager and looked into the usb composite controllers (details -> drop down menu "properties: hardware-IDs"). One was my mic (no name, but the values were the same as in the provided pdf), it had VID: 17A0 and PID: 0310 (so different from the ones in the word file). I entered them in those boxes down there in the provided programm execution, following the word file instructions, and connected. Then the mic was found (also in the top boxes, the device was mentionend now). However, a firmware was obviously still on it, as the "EEPROM not found" message did not come up. I then followed the video tutorial and uploaded the provided firmware file. However, nothing changed (maybe it did, but I only checked for the LED which still was red when re-plugging again). I therefore thought, it does not work, and this time after connecting with my VID and PID numbers, erased the firmware.

Then, after un and re-plugging, the device was found again by windows (typical usb insertion sound), and the VID and PID shown in the device manager changed to the values same as in this video. I followed the tutorial again, however, the light stayed red.

BUT: after trying with the windows recording app, it records again despite being red! Hope that this status is stable now.

The next day, when rebooting the notebook, the LED was blue from the startup. It flickered heaviliy, but it stopped after a few minutes (I muted and unmuted once, flickering intensified, the stopped).

    * I did not try to change the cable as some recommended.
    * One of my USB ports never worked, even with the VID and PID entered as I found their values.

Out of the blue, the light turned blue (haha) - the second I sent the previous comment.

Fingers crossed it stays that way...

    Too happy, too early :-(

I could record a few seconds and then it went back to pale yellow and shows the same "behaviour" as before.

    Hi,
I am sitting here reading every request in the thread and I see no real answers from the company ass to what to do.
I don't need to write everything as it will imply be a repeat of everything above. The instructions and firmware fixes provided do nothing.
As Blaire stated this is a problem on both PC and Apple.
It stopped working, I used the other USB port then it stopped working. Thinking it might be a problem that came up after the latest Windows updates I hooked it up to my Ipad and it worked for zoom session. Unplugged it and reconnected to the laptop and it kept working for one more hour then went to nothing again.
It is not the cable. I only bought this in the spring.
I bought the mic after a bunch of research but missed all this.
I need this for my business, the only thing I can do right now are zoom classes and creation of my podcast and videos.
    What is the problem and
    1. if I bring it back to the store I got it from are they expected to replace it or not.
    2. Please be honest...should I just move on to a different brand. I don't have a lot of time to shop and need it NOW.
